Time to Look to the Future
February 26, 2013 - Jane Whitmore
Predictions of winter storms had us all a little skittish last Thursday. Events were cancelled and others postponed. Some schools even sent students home early, trying to beat the weather. Then Mother Nature said "gotcha" and the snow held off until late evening. The public meeting to discuss the community center was one of the events to be rescheduled. The meeting is this Thursday night, 7p.m. at Emmetsburg High School auditorium. I hope everyone is planning to attend. You have no idea the number of hours this group of volunteers has spent putting this plan together. Look at the broad spectrum of people working together. Last week we named the principle players serving on the various committee. These individuals come from all corners of the community -- from young residents to retired business people, each with areas of expertise to share. Steering Committee:?Tony Kauten, Kirk Haack, Kelly Bay, Kim Zimmerman, Kris Ausborn, Myrna Heddinger and Deb Hite. Building Committee:?John Bird, Bill Lapczenski, Mike Hermanson, Sandy Naig, Dan Cooper, Justin Cooper, Corey Gramowski and Steve Finer. Operations Committee: Val Newhouse, Myrna Heddinger, Kirk Haack, Steve Olerich, Vicky VanOosbree, Ruth Brown and Deb Hite. Finance Committee:?Kris Ausborn, Kelly Bay, Kent Klootwyk and Tony Kauten. Marketing Committee:?Kim Zimmerman, Deb Hite, Lois Enger, Rosemary Matthews, Marc Riley and Jane Campbell. Emmetsburg has the perfect location for the community center -- the shores of Five Island Lake. We are probably the envy of all of our neighbors. Who else has a natural lake in the heart of their community? Plans for the community center were born from visiting other community centers around the state. With input from our citizens, the plan has been refined to meet the needs of our community. Are you ready to look at the most current design, hear about financial obligations and look at the timeline? Reports from each of the committees will outline the direction to be taken as we move forward. A video will be shown, highlighting the potential of the center. This public meeting is your opportunity to once again share your thoughts and have your questions answered. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers during the meeting. Refreshments will be provided after the presentation, presenting yet another opportunity to ask questions of committee members. Thursday’s informational meeting is your opportunity to hear the most current plans. It is important that you attend to share your support for the project and ask questions of the committee members. See you there.
