Dublin’s Food & Spirits Nominated For Iowa’s Best Burgers

April 7, 2011
Emmetsburg News

AMES - Burger lovers provided 275 answers to the question "Who has Iowa's Best Burger?" In its second year, Iowa's Best Burger contest had nearly 3,500 nominations that named 275 restaurants when the Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen's Association asked that simple question.

Among the restaurants with the top ten best burgers in Iowa is Dublin's Food & Spirits in Emmetsburg.

"The Top Ten nominations are scattered throughout the state," said Dan Cook, a New Providence cattle farmer who is IBIC chairman. "The response shows that Iowans and Iowa restaurants know that burgers will always be a popular staple. Restaurants love to make burgers and their customers love to order and eat them."

Cook added, "The burger is the allAmerican classic served in almost every restaurant from the local caf to the finest white tablecloth establishment."

Other restaurants included in the top ten are: Bancroft Drive Inn, Bancroft; Coon Bowl III, Coon Rapids; The Dugout, Ute; Farmer's Kitchen, Atlantic; Grinnell Steakhouse, Grinnell; The Irish Shanti, Gunder; Rube's Steakhouse, Montour; Rusty Duck, Dexter; and 61 Chop House, Mediapolis.

Nominations were made between Feb. 14, through Mar. 15, by either submitting the nomination form via mail, fax or online. The Top Ten restaurants were the top vote-getters when all on-line, paper, and faxed ballots were counted.

The top ten restaurants will be visited by a secret panel of judges who will evaluate the nominee's hamburgers by proper temperature for serving a ground beef patty, appearance and taste. The winner will be named the first week of May as a kick-off to May Beef Month, and will receive a plaque and a media prize package that will include an on-site live radio announcement.

Last year's restaurant winner was the Sac County Cattle Company of Sac City. Their Mushroom Swiss Burger won the overall award. In the first year of the contest, 906 burger nominations were made, representing 64 restaurants.
