Alice M. Finnegan 1931-2011

RUTHVEN -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice Finnegan of Ruthven was held Saturday, Aug. 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Concelebrants were the Rev. Clem Currans, the Rev. Peter Nguyen and the Rev. Tom Geelan.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.

Alice Marie Finnegan, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kirchoff) Bush, was born June 16, 1931, on her family's farm west of Cherokee. She attended Maryhill Parochial Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee. Following graduation, Alice continued her education at Iowa State Teacher's College (U.N.I.) in Cedar Falls where she received her degree in education.

On June 12, 1952, Alice was united in marriage to J. Thomas Finnegan in Cherokee. To this union three sons were born.

Alice taught grade school in Ruthven, at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Spencer, and at Emmetsburg Catholic School.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven where she was active in Guild. Alice was also a member of the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary.

Alice passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at the Dougherty Hospice Facility in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 80. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; and four brothers.

She is survived by her children, Mark Finnegan (Jeanice) of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeff Finnegan (Deb) of Sioux Falls, SD and Kelly Finnegan of Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bush of Cherokee.
