A memorial service for Jay Blackmon of Mallard will be 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Burial will take place at a later date.
Family will greet friends from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
Jay Blackmon was born Sept. 25, 1956 in Castro Valley, CA the son of Mark and Marilyn (Miller) Blackmon. He was a graduate of Newark High School. Following his education, he began working as a machinist for Pengo Corporation.
On Aug. 16, 1985, Jay was married to Marta Oliver in Reno, NV. The couple made their home in Hayward, CA. In 1998, Jay took a trip to Laurens for Pengo Corporation to train employees for the new plant that was opening, and shortly after, the family moved to the area.
Jay worked for Pengo Corporation for over 30 years. He was an avid guitarist. He loved to play and give lessons to others. He loved being outside, especially in the garden, or on the golf course. Jay enjoyed cooking barbeque ribs and making Mexican food. More than anything, Jay treasured the time spent with his family and close friends.
On Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, Jay passed away at his home near Mallard.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marta of Mallard; mother, Marilyn of Hayward, CA; daughter, Marisa Blackmon of Chattanooga, TN; son, Jayson Blackmon of Spencer; sister-in-law, Sally Holmes of Livermore, CA; a niece, Sarah Blackmon; three nephews, Rick and Paul Bartholomew and Jonathan Wilcox; and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Mark Blackmon; and sister, Georgann Wilcox.
