A Mass of Christian Burial for Monica A. Baxter of Emmetsburg was held Monday, Oct. 17, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans was the celebrant.
Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Monica Ann Baxter, daughter of Hugh and Ellen (Tiffany) Smith, was born July 29, 1916, on the family farm in Great Oak Township, Iowa. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Ayrshire Consolidated School in 1934.
On May 26, 1938 Monica was united in marriage to Donald Baxter. They farmed west of Ayrshire. To this union a daughter, Kay was born. After Monica and Donald separated, Monica and Kay made their home in Emmetsburg.
Monica was employed at several local businesses, including Hamilton's, Montgomery Wards, Sears, and most recently at Stanley Propane. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Monica passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg at age 95.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; a brother, Bernard; a sister, Alberta; and her special companion, Al.
She is survived by her daughter, Kay Winter (Tom) of Portage, WI; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
