A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth L. Brennan of Emmetsburg was Monday, Nov. 7, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.
Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Lucille Brennan was born March 3, 1916, in Everett, WA, the daughter of William and Laura (Lawhorn) Beatty. She attended the Emmetsburg Schools.
On July 22, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Emmet Brennan in Emmetsburg. The couple lived on a farm for several years before moving to Emmetsburg where they lived and raised their family.
Ruth worked as a switchboard operator for the Bell Phone Company. She also worked for many years at Berkley's where she finished her working life.
Ruth was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She enjoyed canning, baking and gardening. She also enjoyed preparing and eating fresh fish and pheasant that her family brought her. Ruth loved family gatherings and spending time with all of her grandchildren.
On Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, Ruth passed away at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg with her family at her side.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Beverly Jackson and Tim , Bob Brennan and Mary all of Emmetsburg, Jean Steger of Balltown, IA, Ruthann Haywood and John, and Mike Brennan and Mary all of Emmetsburg; brother, Wayne Beatty of Lomita, CA; 19 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emmet in 1971; brother, Ray Beatty; sisters: Helen Bushnell and Jean Smith; infant brother, George; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Haywood; sisters-in-law, Lorraine and Marian Beatty; and brothers- in-law, Don Bushnell and Darrell Smith.
