RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Viola E. Enger was Monday, Nov. 28, at Zion Lutheran Church. the Rev. Tom Summerfield presided.
Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Viola Elvira Enger, daughter of Ole and Christina (Hendricksen) Olesen, was born Dec. 21, 1914, in Graettinger. She received her education in Graettinger.
On Nov. 28, 1940 Viola was united in marriage to Lloyd Enger in Emmetsburg.
Viola and Lloyd farmed near Osgood from 1942 until 1948, when they moved to a farm near Ruthven. They resided on this farm until 1990, when they moved into Ruthven.
Viola was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and church circle in Ruthven. She taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the church choir.
Viola passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She was 96.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd on Feb. 13, 2009; a daughter, JoAnn; a son, Randy; three sisters, Lavina, Edna, and Sylvia; four brothers, Norman, Clarence, Virgil and Mervel; and four grandchildren, Kathy, Michael, Nathan and Terri.
She is survived by her children, Vern Enger of Emmetsburg, Gene Enger and his wife, Judy of Emmetsburg, and David Root and his wife, Sidra of Webster City; son-in-law Merle Hanson of Graettinger; daughter-in-law, Eloise Enger of Laurens; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Larson of Westminster, CA and Lillian Lammers of Graettinger; a brother, Orville Olesen of Pleasanton, CA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
