E-Hawk Grapplers Down Generals, Knights

GRAETTINGER - Emmetsburg's E-Hawks picked up a pair of victories on the wrestling mat Tuesday night by defeating Sibley-Ocheyedan and Ruthven-Ayrshire/Graettinger-Terril. The E-Hawks improved to 3-1 overall on the season as they open Lakes Conference action tonight (Thursday) with Cherokee in a double dual in Emmetsburg.

On Tuesday night in Graettinger, the E-Hawks faced off against Sibley-Ocheyedan in their first duel and would come away with a 54-27 victory over the Generals.

After forfeiting at 160 to Taylor Block, the E-Hawks got on the board with a 3:56 win by fall by Nick Schany over Dylan Brockshus in the 170 pound match. At 182, Ben Kollasch was pinned in 5:00 of his match with Jimmy Cuadros.

Tayler Wegner earned a 3:30 win by fall over Marshall Eddy in the 195 pound match before Emmetsburg forfeited the 220 pound match to make the team score 12-18 in favor of the Generals.

Andrew Garrelts would square off with Patrick Coleman in the 285 pound match and battled down to the wire before coming up short in a 3-2 decision to the S-O wrestler.

Emmetsburg got back on track at 106 as Brett Steinkamp would score a :48 win by fall over Wade Dimmitt, but at 113 pounds, Alex Clark would be pinned in 4:37 of his match against Brent Reed.

Jacob Miller came up with a :36 win by fall over Damon Monier at 120 pounds and at 126 pounds, Nick Merwald received a forfeit win to put the E-Hawks ahead for the first time in the duel.

Tyler Leuer needed just 1:34 in his first match of the season to pin Jesse Espinoza in the 132 pound match. In action at 138 pounds, Caige Elbert earned a 2:41 win by fall over Alex Fisher as the E-Hawks pulled away from the Generals.Justin Studer would collect a 1:03 win by fall over Tyler Reck and Brady Bailey rounded out the duel with a 1:13 win by fall over Tyler O'Connor to give Emmetsburg the54-27 margin of victory.

In the nightcap, the E-Hawks received six forfeits to claim a 57-24 victory over the Knights of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire.

Nick Schany opened the duel with a win by forfeit at 170 pounds, but at 182, Tyler Henson would default to Matt McGrauth to tie the team score at 6-6.

Ben Kollasch would score a :34 win by fall over the Knights' Kyle Long in the 195 pound match and at 220 pounds, Tayler Wegner received a forfeit win. Andrew Garrelts would also receive a forfeit win at 285 pounds to put the E-Hawks up 24-6 before Brent Steinkamp also received a forfeit at 106 pounds for a 30-6 team score.

In the 113 pound match, Alex Clark would fall victim to Tyler Dalen as the Knight grappler would earn a :48 win by fall over the E-Hawk wrestler. Jacob Miller received a win by forfeit at 120 pounds and Nick Merwald received a forfeit at 126 pounds as the E-Hawks took a 42-12 lead.

Tyler Leuer would earn a :42 win by fall over Connor Tonderum in the 132 pound match, but at 138 pounds, Caige Elbert was pinned in 3:08 of his match with Ty Gibson.

Justin Studer would meet up with Trent Lundgren in the 145 pound match and the two seniors battled through three periods before Studer would collect the 8-3 decision victory.

Brady Bailey scored a :25 win by fall over Garth Wolf in the 152 pound match be fore the E-Hawks forfeited the 160 pound match to the Knights' Tym Hart for the 57-24 final tally.

Emmetsburg will play host to the Braves from Cherokee in their Lakes Conference opener on Thursday, and will then host the Warriors of Alta-Aurelia in a non-conference duel the same evening. Action between Emmetsburg and Cherokee will begin at 5 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at the Emmetsburg High School gym.
