VENTURA - Clinging to a 21-20 lead, West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Brandgate would outscore Ventura 11-6 in the final quarter to earn a 32-26 Cornbelt Conference victory on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
The Lady Wolverines, fresh off a win over Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer the night before, got a 13 point effort from Jessica Abrahamson to earn the fictory.
Ventura took a 10-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Wolverines cut the margin to a 15-13 tally at haltime. The Lady Wolverine defense stepped up in the second half to limit the Vikings to five points while taking a 21-20 lead to end the third quarter. In the final quarter, WBM/GCB would outscore Ventura 11-6 to collect the 32-26 win to close out the first half of the season.
Jessica Abrahamson's 13 points led the Lady Wolverines, with Courtney Bargman hit a pair of three pointers in adding eight points and Mackenzie Grimm scoring seven points. Sarah Berte and Kayla Banwart rounded out the scoring with two points each.
The win gives West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate a mark of 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Cornbelt Conferece at the holiday break.
