Emmetsburg basketball teams earned a split with Cherokee in Lakes Conference play Tuesday night at Emmetsburg. The Lady E-Hawks fell by a 44-47 margin while the E-Hawks claimed a 68-41 victory.
For the Lady E-Hawks, cold shooting in the final quarter was the difference in the loss, Cherokee led 10-6 after one quarter and 25-21 at the break, but the Lady E-Hawks came back to lead 34-29 after three quarters, but only made two shots from the floor in the final quarter as Cherokee would escape with the three-point win.
Ashton Connelly scored 16 points, while Paige Naig added 13. Faith Schmidt scored six points, with Alexa Naig adding five and Hadley Egland scoring four.
The E-Hawk boys had the opposite outcome, as they led their game with Cherokee from start to finish on Tuesday in claiming a 68-41 victory.
Coming off a narrow victory over West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate on Monday, the E-Hawks got after the Braves right away, taking a 21-11 lead after the opening quarter and then clamping down on Cherokee to take a 33-18 lead at the intermission.
The E-Hawks didn't let up, sliding out to a 50-26 lead after three quarters on their way to the 68-41 win.
Jake Jackson led the attack with 19 points, while Marcus Akridge came away with 16 points. Michael Wolff added 12 points, while Jake Carlson scored eight points and Michael Myers came off the bench to add six. Austin Krause scored four points and Zach Overberg rounded out the effort with three points.
