In loving memory of Alice Mae Brattmiller, daughter of Edward Samuel and Nellie Opal (Mitchell) Hogge, Lake City, born on April 12, 1931. In 1948 she graduated from Jamaica Consolidated School. She then worked as a telephone operator in Rockwell City. In 1956 she completed her Licensed Practical Nurse's training in Marshalltown.
She was employed by Northwestern Bell in Des Moines and became a teletype instructor. On Sept. 4, 1959, she was joined in marriage to Fred Bratt-miller in Jefferson. Following their wedding, they farmed west of Pocahontas, where Alice continued to work for the telephone company. In 1963, Fred and Alice began farming near Ayrshire. They became members of Zion Lutheran Church in Ayrshire. She truly enjoyed each day as a gift from God, often saying, "Take each day one day at a time."
Alice enjoyed simple things like walking by the lake, reading with the grandchildren, cooking and clipping recipes, sewing and mending clothes. With a kind heart, she never wanted more for herself, but was always willing to share what she had with others. She was a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, sister and friend and will be greatly missed.
Alice passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, and joined our Savior the day before her 81st birthday.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Nellie Hogge, her older sister Dorothy Brandt, two brothers Dale Hogge and Boyd Hogge and her niece Donna Majors.
She is survived by her husband Fred Brattmiller of Ayrshire; their children Ronald Brattmiller of Forest City; Janet Wackerbarth and her husband Darwin of Spirit Lake; Karen Klinkefus and her husband Jon and their children Kate and Jill of Cedar Rapids; and Sharon Chism and her husband John and their children Jim and Jack of Huxley; brothers Jim Hogge and his wife Marie of Jamaica, IA; Roy Hogge and his wife Sandra of Hopkins, MN; sister-in-law Norma Hogge of Bagley; her sisters Marjorie Anderson and her husband Ray of Sioux Rapids; and Marcella (Sally) Fairchild and her husband Lou of Cedar Rapids, as well as many others relatives and friends.
