RUTHVEN - Mark Smith of Ruthven passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the age of 50.
A public gathering will take place today, Thursday, April 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Warner Funeral Chapel in Spencer. Pastor DeFord will officiate.
Private family burial will be held at a later date. The Warner Funeral Home in Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
Mark Lewis Smith, the son of Veral and Judy Rish Smith was born July 16, 1961 in Remus, MI. His childhood years were spent in the Remus area where he graduated high school.
Mark married Heidi Hallenbeck on Dec. 19, 1987 at Chapel of Roses in Las Vegas, NV. They later divorced. He worked as a general manager for G&G Ag. Mark enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed working with machinery, playing with RC Helicopters, spending time with his dog Cindi, and traveling, especially to Lake Fork in Texas. He was an avid reader and took pleasure in watching the live feed of the Decorah Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Danielle Smith of Fostoria and Olivia Smith of Emmetsburg; one grandson, Byron Zielstra of Fostoria; his parents, Veral and Judy Smith of Idaho; a mother-in-law, Manuela Perez; one sister, Rebecca Smith of Phoenix, AZ; companion Brenda "Boyer" Tiesworth of Spencer; other relatives and many special friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up in Mark's name.
