Funeral service for William Raymond Moffitt of Emmetsburg will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Ackworth Cemetery.
Visitation is today, Tuesday, April 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
William Raymond Moffitt was born May 22, 1946 in Indianola, the son of Wiliam E. and Anna Mae (Starbuck) Moffitt. He attended country school in Ackworth, Friends Boarding School in Barnesville, OH, and he was a 1968 graduate of Simpson College with a degree in Spanish and elementary physical education.
On Feb. 16, 1974, Ray was united in marriage to Alberta James in Indianola. Ray taught Spanish and physical education, and he coached softball and wrestling in Pocahontas for 11 years before moving back to Ackworth to help farm. Ray was the manager of the Big Bear Farm Store in Audubon and Indianola before moving to Emmetsburg in 1991. He worked at Coast to Coast, later Hardware Hank, and he retired after his illness.
Ray enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountains, coin collecting, flea markets and sports. He loved to be with his family, and his granddaughter Chloe was the sparkle in his eyes.
On Sunday, April 22, 2012, Ray passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Alberta of Emmetsburg; his parents, William and Anna Mae; three children: Jeremy Moffitt (Maile) of Urbandale, Adam Moffitt (Heather) and granddaughter, Chloe of Savage, MN and Megan Moffitt of Emmetsburg; sister, Patsy Moffitt of Urbandale; and brothers, Daryl Moffitt (Rosemary) of Flintstone, and Georgia and Dennis Moffitt (Debbie) of Indianola.
