Former Emmetsburg resident Iris Jordan died April 24, 2012 at the Midwest City Nursing Center in Oklahoma. She was 95.

Iris Mills was born in 1916 in Clay County Iowa, the daughter of Wesley and Amelia (Noonan) Mills. She moved with her family to Emmetsburg soon after. She attended Saint Mary's Academy through her junior year, and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1934 and from Emmetsburg Junior College in 1936.

Iris married Maurice L. Jordan at Assumption Church in Emmetsburg in 1938. From the late 1930s to her retirement in 1978, she was legal secretary at the law firm of Kelly and Spies, and its successors Kelly, Spies and Culver, Spies and Berkland, and Roger Berkland. For approximately same period, she was Secretary-Treasurer and later President of the Emmetsburg Building & Loan Association, later, the Emmetsburg Savings and Loan.

In Emmetsburg she was a member of Assumption Parish, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Iowa Association of Legal Secretaries, and Wa-Tan-Ye. She was an avid bridge player and a member of two bridge clubs for most of her adult life in Emmetsburg.

After retiring in 1978, Iris moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she continued her bridge playing. She provided volunteer tax assistance to senior citizens, and traveled extensively, with several trips each to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and the Far East. She moved to Estes Park, CO in 2004 and to Oklahoma City in 2006.

Her husband, her parents, brother Russell, and sisters Therese and Helen preceded her in death.

Iris is survived by her son Robert (Diane) Jordan of Midwest City, OK, daughter JoAnn Jensen of Norman, OK, grandsons Michael Jordan of Washington, D.C., David (Melinda) Jordan of Oklahoma City and great-grandchildren Emily and Evan Jordan.
