Hosting the Class 2A Girls Regional Golf Tournament didn't give Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks any advantage on Monday. The Lady E-Hawks ended up finishing fifth in the six-team field to bring their 2012 links campaign to a close.
"It is what it is," observed Emmetsburg Head Coach Ted Riley. "There were a lot of good golfers here today, and we just didn't have our best rounds of golf. These girls have worked hard and I'm still very proud of all of them."
Alta-Aurelia would win the team title witha 379 stroke score and was followed by Sheldon with a 391 to earn the two team qualifications to the State Girls Golf Tournament next week in Adel.
Individual Medalist Qualifiers were led by Alex Mankle of Okoboji with a score of 80. Karah Huinker of Garner-Hayfield was second with an 86, while Sarah McMichael of Nashua-Plainfield placed third with an 89 stroke score. Fourth place went to Carrie Wahlstrom of Sheldon with a 90 and fifth place went to April Goslinga of Alta-Aurelia with a round of 91.
For Emmetsburg, Freshman Taylor Knight led the effort with rounds of 53 and 48 for a 101 stroke total. Senior Paige Naig recorded rounds of 60 and 46 for a 106 total and fellow senior Ashley Pelzer carded rounds of 60 and 50 for a 110 stroke total.
Senior Aleysha Schutz recorded rounds of 57 and 59 for a 116 total, while junior Hannah VanOosbree shot rounds of 62 and 54 to also tally a 116. Rounding out the efforts was senior Katie Kassel with rounds of 62 and 61 for a 123 stroke total.
"We've had great leadership from our seniors,"?Riley noted. "Paige Naig, Ashley Pelzer, Aleysha Schutz and Katie Kassel have all worked hard through the season and their contributions will be missed."
