Recycling...

What Goes Where

May 31, 2012
by Jane Whitmore , Emmetsburg News

Emmetsburg recycling is picked up at the curb twice each month. The first and third Wednesdays of each month, residents living north of Highway 18 have their recycling picked up. The first and third Thursdays of each month, the residents living south of Highway 18 have their recycling picked up.

Shamrock Recycling, Inc. is contracted with the City of Emmetsburg to pick up items at the curb. Paper (white paper and newspaper), plastics (including empty pill bottles), cardboard, magazines, glass jars and bottles, tin cans and plastic bags should be placed in separate containers and set at the curb.

Residents pay $2.20 each month for this service. This amount is reflected on utilities bills.

If residents miss their recycling day and don't want to wait two weeks to have items picked up at the curb, there are receptacles at Horizons Unlimited, located south on Highway 4.

Horizons Unlimited has a place to deposit textiles, clothing and shoes for recycling. These items are not collected at the curb.

The can and bottle redemption center is also located at Horizons Unlimited. Hours are Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
