Emmetsburg News
When things go wrong, they go wrong. Leland Harris of Estherville, driving for Central Transport of Graettinger, was hauling a load of corn stover bales to the Project Liberty stackyard Tuesday morning around 8:20 when two of the round bales came off the trailer and spilled onto Highways Four &?18 on the curve in front of Hughes, Brennan *?Wirtz Insurance in Emmetsburg. The broken bales partially blocked the roadway until the Iowa Department of Transportation removed the bales off the roadway with an end loader. BJ?Schany and Al Keller and a crew from POET responded to assist in re-setting the toppling bales onto Harris’ trailer and also cleaned up and removed the broken bales.Whilethere were no injuries in the mishap, Emmetsburg Police Chief Eric Hanson, left, issued Harris a citation for Spilling Load on a Highway in connection with the incident. --Dan Voigt photo
