CALIFORNIA -- Elfredo T. Marks died on April 22, 2012, at the home of her son Peter Henriksen, DVM, in Occidental, CA, where she had lived since 2009. She was 99 years old.
Elfredo was born in Ringsted in 1912 to T.B. (Thorvald) Petersen and Anna (Sorensen) Petersen. Anna suffered complications of the flu of 1918 so the two little girls, Elfredo and Phyllis, grew up with the help of their Grandma Sorensen and aunts, Helga (Benson) and Lena (Fink).

Sons Peter and Mark were born after his return. Ervin ran the family farm (Peter and Helen Henriksen) at Ringsted until a farm accident took his life in 1956.
A widow with three children, Elfredo found a job teaching fifth grade in Fairmont, MN. Five years later (1961), Elfredo married Warren R. Marks, veterinarian in Emmetsburg, a widower with three children of his own: Del, Margo and Terry. The Marks home on Five Island Lake was known for beautiful plantings and flower gardens.
