Harold F. Drew, son of Isaac and?Mary (Conway) Drew, was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Cylinder. Harold passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at the age of 87 after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene and Maurice Drew; sisters, Veronica Slagle and Theresa Molloy; and granddaughter, Jennifer Drew.
On Dec. 31, 1949, Harold was married to Adeline Dorothy Elbert, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Married 62 years, he was the proud father of five children and was blessed with 18 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Harold began his career as an Iowa farmer. He was also a talented craftsman and later master carpenter, building many houses in and around Emmetsburg. In 1965 the family moved to Ventura, CA, where he worked as a cabinet maker and union carpenter. In 1978, along with his sons, he opened his own cabinet shop and construction company in Ventura. He continued to work until shortly before his death.
Family was everything to him. His highlight was family gatherings and playing pinochle and cribbage. He loved talking to his younger brother, Lawrence, and rehashing the week's sporting results, especially those of the Iowa Hawkeyes, UCLA Bruins and LA?Dodgers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 2, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai, CA.
Survivors include his wife, Adeline; his children; his brother, Lawrence Drew of Emmetsburg; and sister-in-law, Jean Marie Drew of Cylinder.
