LuVerne Carl Petersen was born Aug. 12, 1925, on the family farm in Palo Alto County. He attended Blue Bottom Country School. Following his education, Verne worked on the family farm and help to raise his younger siblings.

Verne was a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger. He enjoyed fishing at his cabin in Okoboji, gardening, playing cards, and keeping up on current events over coffee at Studer's and the Elevator. Farming was his pride and joy, but above all things, Verne cherished the time he spent with his family.
On Monday, June 18, 2012, Luverne passed away at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. He was 86.
