FENTON -- Funeral service for Howard Bruhn was held Wednesday, July 18, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Fairville. Pastor David Bergquist officiated.
Burial was in St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery, Fair-ville. The Henry-Olson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Howard Ivan Bruhn the son of Henry and Alvina (Bleckwenn) was born March 20, 1935. He died on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 77.
He was baptized April 6, 1935 and confirmed March 21, 1948 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church - Fairville. He attended country school at Independence County School #5 and graduated from Fenton in 1953.
On Oct. 17, 1954, he was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Theesfield at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fenton. Howard worked at Hantelman Builders before starting to farm north of Fenton in 1957.
Howard and Sandra moved to the family farm west of Fenton in 1963 and continued to farm until health issues forced him to retire. Sandra passed away in 2000.
In 2001, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Schlickelman. She passed away in 2006.
Howard moved to Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg in 2007 and resided there until his death. Howard enjoyed music and gospel concerts in the park, traveling, and playing cards. He also enjoyed working together with his family, including milking Holsteins, picking up rocks, baling hay, and cleaning chickens.
Howard is survived by five children, Vickie Gangestad and husband, Steve of Fenton; Steve Bruhn and wife, Sue of Fenton; Cheryl Gerry and husband, Steve of Sac City; Kevin Bruhn and wife, Neola of Fenton; Myron Bruhn and wife, Judi of Cylinder; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; four step daughters; one sister, Mildred Sigmund of Boone; brother-in-law, Dennis Theesfield and wife, Sharon of Armstrong; sisters-in-law, Janet Nielsen and husband, Bill of Fairmont, MN; and Judy Hirt and husband, Jack of Maple Grove, MN.
In addition to his parents and wives, Sandra and Trudie, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Roscoe Sigmund, niece, Becky Moeckly, and nephew, Mark Sigmund.
