Emmetsburg News

Charles "Chuck"?A. Runneberg, 73, fought his last battle. After a long courageous fight, he passed from this life on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the Israel Family Hospice Home in Ames.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 9, in Madrid.

Chuck was born on March 5, 1939, to Elroy and Ila Runneberg. He was brought up on the family farm and graduated from Mallard School District. On Nov. 5, 1965, Chuck married Roberta Stender and to this union, two daughters were born. Chuck worked for 30 years in road construction for Jackson Construction in Nevada and Grimes Asphalt in Grimes. While working for Grimes Asphalt, he and his wife owned and operated Chuck's Hardware in Madrid.

He was a quiet man, with a silly sense of humor. Chuck could always say things with a straight face and with a twinkle in his eye. He knew no enemies and had many friends.

Chuck will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years, Roberta Runneberg; two daughters, Lisa (Russell) Herrstrom and Lori Runneberg, both of Madrid; two grandsons, Travis and Nicholas; one sister, Marian Runneberg of Arizona; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
