Booster Club Membership Drive Is Winding Down

August 2, 2012
Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

With the flip of the calendar to August, the start of the 2012-13 school year is just two short weeks away. The Fall Athletic seasons will be starting this coming Monday, and the annual membership drive for the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Booster Club will be coming to a conclusion.

The Booster Club is once again soliciting memberships and volunteers to not only join and support the student athletes of the Emmetsburg Community Schools, but also to help out with their time, talent and treasures for various functions and events.

Members of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Booster Club assist the athletic programs with concession stand operations, ticket takers and other capacities throughout the school year, and signups for assisting at various events is currently underway in conjunction with the annual membership drive.

Each year, Booster club memberships offer supporters of Emmetsburg athletic programs a chance not only to assist in the ongoing efforts of the student athletes, but also an opportunity for boosters to be recognized for their support. Through the yearly membership in the E-Hawk Booster Club, the monies raised are used to provide additional financial support to all athletic programs sponsored by the Emmetsburg Community Schools.

In the 2011-2012 school year, through the efforts of the Emmetsburg Sports Booster Club, a donation of $11,940 was given to the Emmetsburg Community Schools to be placed in the Athletics Budget, which is used directly for the needs of the district's student athletes. Additional funds were generated by the Booster Club and directed towards the volleyball solo spike machine, softball bullpen improvements, new bats for the baseball program and new basketballs, pro-agility ladders for the Speed, Agility and Quickness (SAQ) program, as well as funding towards new Cross Country uniforms, six new E-Hawk Golf bags and practice round green fees for District Golf, a donation to the Shrine Bowl, meal funds for all state competition events, sack lunches for all away events, and funding for the B.E.S.T. basketball shooting came. Funds were also utilized to host the Senior Athletic Recognition Banquet, SAQ program shirts; a donation to the Trap Shooting club; HUDL software for all sports, the E-Hawk Pride signage along the athletic field complex, along with a pledge of $10,000 each year for the next two years towards the refurbishing of the weight room and a cooperative effort with the Wild Rose Casino and Resort to purchase two new scoreboards for the high school gymnasium.

The organization is also planning to sponsor its Second Annual E-Hawk Booster Club Four-Person Best Shot Golf Tournament, which will feature special honors for Jerry Strand, a long-time E-Hawk Athletics supporter and fan. The 2012 edition of the golf outing has been set for Saturday, August 25 at the Five Island Golf Course in Emmetsburg, starting with a shot-gun start at 9:30 a.m. The tournament will feature a nine-hole format with Rib eye steak meal, grilled by the Palo Alto County Cattlemen at the conclusion along with awards ceremony.

Registration will take place at the clubhouse from 9 to 9:30 a.m. In case of rain, the event will be held on Sunday, August 26. Foursomes are not required. Individuals are welcomed and will be paired up with other golfers to enjoy the outing.

As an added inducement, any hole-in-one recorded during the tournament will earn the lucky golfer or golfers a Lifetime E-Hawk Athletics admission ticket. To register for the golf outing, contact Julie Elbert at 712-260-7712.

The Board of Directors of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Athletic Booster Club includes Co-Chairs Julie Elbert and Tony Stubbs, along with co-treasurers Rhonda Kliegl and Donna Garrelts, with Kim Kibbie serving as secretary.

Also serving on the board are Kathy Jackson, Julie Dunlap, Tammy Naig and Jim and Stephanie Bird, along with new members Kristen Ruiz, Kori Huberty and Scott and Heather Wirz.

For the 2012-2013 school year, a new opportunity for membership has been created. The Senior Membership is now available to all E-Hawk supporters age 62 and older at a reduced rate. Along with the new Senior level of membership, there are four additional levels of membership: White, Black, Gold and E-Hawk Membership. A White membership is the general, basic membership and gives the member an E-Hawk Booster window decal. At the Black membership level, one adult activity ticket is included in the membership package, which allows the member admission to all home non-tournament events, along with the E-Hawk Booster window decal.

The Gold level of membership includes two activity tickets in the membership package, along with the window decal, while the E-Hawk Membership package provides three adult activity tickets and window decal.

Also, for each level of membership, the donor's name is listed on the official Emmetsburg Athletic programs that are distributed at each home athletic event throughout the season.

For those who might wish to assist a needy student, the Booster Club is sponsoring a Junior Hawk donation, which will allow for the purchase of a student activity admission ticket that the donor may specific the recipient, or leave the issuance up to school officials to a deserving student.

Memberships in the E-Hawk Athletic Booster Club are being accepted a the current time, and may be dropped off at the Booster Club drop box, located at Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities, 2021 Main Street in Emmetsburg, or mailed to P.O. Box 459 in Emmetsburg. Memberships must be received by August 11 in order to place the donor's name in the athletic programs for the football and volleyball seasons.
