After a hiatus of 24 years, the Les Pritchard Memorial Golf Tournament resumed this past week at the Five Island Golf Course in Emmetsburg.

The tournament was created in the memory of Les Pritchard, a West Point graduate who returned to Emmetsburg to practice law for many years. The tournament was established for high-school aged golfers. The tournament was originally played in an 18-hole format and began in 1974 and continued until 1988.

With the Arthur and Audrey Smith Youth Golf Program being offered yearly during the summer, organizers elected to reinstate the Pritchard Memorial, starting this past week on the final day of the youth program for the summer.

A total of seven Emmetsburg youth played in the event, with Michael Pugh earning the championship with his nine-hole score of 37. Second place honors went to Nick Schany with a 41, while Clayton Freeman finished third with a round of 43. Luke Jackson and Michael Myers tied fpr fourth place honors as each shot a round of 44.

Jake Jackson would finish sixth in the tournament with a round of 45 and Taylor Wegner finished seventh with a score of 47.

The Tom Myers Youth Tournament was; also played Monday, with youth playing three holes to win awards in their respective age groups.
