MILFORD A collision between a motorcycle and a car claimed the life of a Graettinger man Tuesday, Aug. 7.
According to Dickinson County Sheriff Greg Baloun, the collision occurred at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday on Dickinson County Road A-34, two miles east of Milford.
The accident occurred as29-year old Mitchell Jespersen of Graettinger was operating a 1997 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound on Dickinson County Road A34 and a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Susan Klassen of Arnolds Park, was eastbound on County A34.. The collision occurred as Klassen attempted to make a left hand turn off A34 onto 240th Avenue and in doing so, turned into the path of Jespersen's motorcycle, which collided with the Klassen vehicle.
Mitchell Jespersen was pronounced dead at the accident scene following the collision. The driver of the second vehicle, Susan Klassen, was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake by Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance where she received treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Damages to Klassen's 2011 Chevrolet were estimated at $20,000, while the Jespersen motorcycle was termed a total loss by authorities.
Assisting the Dickinson County Sheriff's office at the accident scene were officers of the Milford, Okoboji and Okoboji Police Departments as well as the Iowa State Patrol, along with Milford Fire and Rescue and Lakes Regional Healthcare Paramedics and Ambulance.
Authorities say the investigation into the accident is continuing.
