Emmetsburg News

DES MOINES An Emmetsburg resident has been appointed to a state advisory group. Iowa Governor Terry Branstad announced the appointment of former State Representative Marcie Frevert of Emmetsburg to the Northwest Regional STEM Hub Advisory Board on Friday, Aug. 3.

A total of six STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math hubs were launched in May as the first major initiative of the new Governor's STEM Advisory Council, a public-private partnership whose overarching goal is creating greater student achievement in STEM subjects and a stronger STEM workforce. The Northwest Iowa hub is Iowa Lakes Community College.

The northwest Iowa STEM hub is being headquartered out of Iowa Lakes Community College, who has hired Kari Webb of Spirit Lake as coordinator.

Joining Frevert on the council overseeing the Northwest Iowa hub were Shaun Arneson, Wade Weber and Rick Reinking, all of Spirit Lake, along with Jerry Chizek of Manson, Jim Christensen of Holstein, Linda Gray of Everly, Cheryl Heronimus of Alton, Walter Johnson and Debora Robertson both of Sioux City; Dr. Jasper Lesage of Sioux Center, Mary Trent of Carroll, Gerald Van Roekel of Orange City, Ryan Welsh of Sioux Falls and Mark Zabawa of Spencer.

Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds says those appointed " will serve as boots on the ground and be the most entrenched members of the STEM initiative in their region of the Iowa."
