SPENCER - The season opened Tuesday for Emmetsburg's boys and girls harriers at the Spencer Invite.
"Everyone ran well for the first competition of the season,"?noted Head Coach Valerie Pickett. "Now we have a feel of where we're at and can work from there."
Leading the Lady E-Hawks on Tuesday was sophomore Caroline Fantz, who finished 37th with a time of :19.15. Taylor Reimer followed with a :19.24 effort to finish 43rd, while Maura Soukup was 45th in a time of :19.35.
Rachel Ruddy earned 54th place with a time of :20.17 and newcomer Mikki Mundus was right behind in 55th place with a time of :20.31.
Another newcomer, Emily Bonnstetter, ran a :20.56 to place 62nd and Madison Reimer closed out the varsity times with a :23.15 for 73rd place.
In the girls junior varsity division, Tara Harris finished 25th with a time of :21.46, while Kiersten Aldous was 43rd in :24.10. Allison Gould ran a :24.38 to finish 46th and Ema Enriquez ran a :28.35 to finish 54th.
In the Varsity boys race, newcomer Nick Grandstaff set the pace for the E-Hawks with a time of :20.08 to finish 43rd. Michael Pugh was 64th with a :22.23, while Austin Cole was 65th in :22.31 and Daniel VanOosbree was 68th with a :22.51 time and Lane Smith finished 71st in :24.11.
Next action for the Emmetsburg harriers will be on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Okoboji at Woodlyn Hills Golf Course, east of Milford.
