“Tradition Matters”

E-Hawk Flag Football Program To Begin

August 30, 2012
Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

It's a ritual in Emmetsburg at the start of the school year. With the sound of pads popping and cheers under the lights on Friday night, the Emmetsburg Recreation Department is once again sponsoring the E-Hawk Boy's Flag Football program.

As in past years, the E-Hawk Flag Football program will be offered three days per week, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and on Saturday mornings.

The joint Flag Football programs will officially begin with weekday sessions starting on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The program will be based at the Middle School Football Field on 10th Street. This program will run on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and will be coached by former E-Hawk players.

The Saturday program will begin on Sept. 8 with the annual E-Hawk Football Clinic, which is presented by members of the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Varsity Football coaching staff.

The clinic will be held from 9:00AM - 11 AM at the Middle School Football Field for boys in First through Sixth grade.

The conclusion of the E-Hawk Flag Football program will once again place the participants on the turf of Duane Twait Field for the Sixth Annual Saturday Night Under the Lights event. This year's event is scheduled for Saturday night, October 6th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Emmetsburg High School Athletic Complex.

Saturday Night Under the Lights allows the young men who have participated in the Flag Football program to showcase their talents on the grass of Duane Twait Field.

The entire community is cordially invited to attend the event, and support the future E-Hawk players.

Participating in the E-Hawk Flag Football Program is designed to teach youth the basic rules and fundamentals of the game of football, as well as to promote teamwork and sportsmanship among all the youth in the program. Each session will feature practice drills as well as game situations.

A small participation fee for each youth is required for participation in the E-Hawk Flag Football Program. This fee is payable to the Emmetsburg Recreation Department.

Anyone with questions on the E-Hawk Flag Football program can contact Emmetsburg City Recreation Director Mike Dunlap at 712- 852-3383.

All participants in the E-Hawk Flag Football program will receive a special gift for their participation.
