SHELDON - Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawk Volleyball team had a tough outing on Saturday at the Sheldon Orab Volleyball Tournament. Emmetsburg would go 0-5 in matches on Saturday and 1-10 in games.
The Lady E-Hawks fell 11-21 and 23-25 to Sibley-Ocheyedan and then fell by scores of 5-21 and 9-21 to LeMars Gehlen. Against Central Lyon, Emmetsburg fell by scores of 22-24 and 12-21.
Emmetsburg would battle Cherokee, losing game one by a 17-21 score but taking the second game 21-8 before falling in the rubber match by a 13-15 tally.
Against Newell-Fonda, Emmetsburg fell by scores of 16-21 and 18-21.
On the day, Whitney Kibbie would come away with 27 of 29 serves and two aces, along with 31 of 43 hits with six kills, while assisting on three blocks, digging out 18 shots and handing out 14 assists.
Ashton Connelly made 38 of 38 serves with two aces and 28 of 34 hits with five kills while assisting on two blocks. Connelly added five digs and three assists to the tally.
Miranda Vlasman would add 19 of 19 serves with six aces and connected on 32 of 42 hits with seven kills. Vlasman assisted on one block and added 13 digs to the effort.
Emily Noll completed 34 of 39 serves with five aces on the day and made eight of 13 hits with a kill, as well as digging out two shots.
Jacque Carlson would make 17 of her 21 serve attempts with one ace serve and added 27 of 34 hits with four kills. Carlson also dug out two shots and made one assist.
Alexa Naig would add 23 of 25 service completions and a pair of ace serves to Emmetsburg's totals, and connected on 13 of 20 hits with six kills at the net. Naig dug out 13 shots on the day and dished out 13 assists.
Kendall Deitering dug out nine shots on the day and libero player Michaela Rehm came away with a hit for a kill, as well as digging out 26 shots on the day and issuing one assist.
Emmetsburg hosted its first home meet of the season on Tuesday night against Pocahontas Area.
This Saturday, Sept. 8, Emmetsburg will host the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawk Invitational Tournament. Action will get underway at 9 a.m. in the high school gym. Teams participating in the tournament include Bishop Garrigan of Algona, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire and Storm Lake.
