RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Don R. Sundall, Sr. is today, Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. The Rev. Paul Kaldahl will officiate.
Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Don Ray Sundall, son of Laurence C. and Luella (Wikert) Sundall, was born April 15, 1932 in Ruthven. He received his education in Ruthven until ninth grade when he enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
While stationed in Fort Belvir, VA, Don met Lorraine Scoz and they were united in marriage on May 2, 1953 in Arlington, VA. To this union three sons were born.
Don and Lorraine moved to northwest Iowa where they raised their family. Don worked at the Spencer Packing House for seventeen years, also farming in the area. He then went to work for the Farmers Coop in Ruthven where he was employed until his retirement.
Don was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. He was also a 60-year member of the Ruthven American Legion. He was a past member of the V.F.W. in Spencer and Eagle's Club. Don is also a member of the V.F.W. Post #2295 in Emmetsburg.
Don died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, in Mason City at the age of 80.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Dayton; two sisters, Laura Hansen and Wanda Gronbeck; six brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Don is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Ruthven; his children, Don Ray Sundall and Deb of Ruthven, Dale Sundall and Laurie of Ruthven, and Jeff Sundall and Terri of Ruthven; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Lind of Ruthven, Phyllis Dittman and Paul of Bakersfield, CA, and Alice Fullmer of Pahrump, NV; two sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
