Dolores K. Geelan 1919-2012

RUTHVEN -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Dolores K. Geelan will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Clem Currans is the celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangemetns.

Dolores Kathryn Geelan, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Fandel) Elbert, was born Feb. 23, 1919 near Whittemore. She attended Saint Cecelia Academy in Algona, graduating in May 1936.

Following graduation, Dolores moved to Minneapolis, where she was employed in retail for a few years before returning to work in Algona.

On Aug. 11, 1952, Dolores was united in marriage to William Geelan at Saint Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. To this union three sons were born. After her marriage, Dolores became a devoted farmwife, helping Bill and caring for her sons.

She was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served on various committees and in Ladies Guild. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Dolores passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 93.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Arnold, Irvin, Mike, Joe, Arch and Clem Elbert; sisters, Isabelle Besch, Gertrude Schiltz, Elizabeth Elbert and Carmel Sweeney.

She is survived by her children, Pat and Kristi Geelan of Ruthven, Phil and Therese Geelan of Ruthven, and Dan and Lori Geelan of Ruthven; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Wagner of Algona; sisters-in-law, Mary Kirsch- baum of Ayrshire, Rose Elbert of Mankato, MN and Rose Geelan of Ruthven; several nieces and nephews.
