Lady Wolverines’ Season Comes To A Close

EAGLE?GROVE - The hopes of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate's Lady Wolverines for a trip to the state volleyball tournament came to an abrupt halt Wednesday night. The Lady Wolverines saw their outstanding season come to a close in a 3-0 loss to Janesville in a Class 1A Regional Final at Eagle Grove.

Game scores on Wednesday were 20-25, 14-25 and 11-25.

The Lady Wolverines battled hard in the first game, tying the game several times before the Wildcats earned the 25-20 win.

In game two, WBM/GCB went down 3-9 early and then trailed 4-15 before trailing 9-19, but the Lady Wolverines scored five points before Janesville took the 25-14 win.

Game three saw Janesville jump out to an 8-3 lead that grew to a 14-3 advantage over the Lady Wolverines. WBM/GCB could never get the momentum back in the final match as they fell 11-25 to end their season witha 29-5 mark.

For the Lady Wolverines, Heather Fehr would make 14 of 26 hits with four kills, while handing out one assist and completing three of four serves with one ace. Ashley Schmidt would come away with 15 of20 hits and two kills, while digging out 10 shots and completing four of four serves.

McKenzie Grimm added 12 of 16 hits with five kills and dug out six shots while assisting on one block and making one solo block. Grimm added three of six serves to the effort.

Emily Borman would make seven of 11 hits with four kills and had two solo blocks on the night.

Courtney Bargmann came away with eight of 10 hits with a pair of kills and dished out 12 assists, while digging out two shots and assisting on one block. Bargmann also added seven of seven serves to the Lady Wolverines' effort.

Sam Hartman made three of five hits in the match, while Kayla Banwart dug out 10 shots and made 12 of 12 serves and Jennalyn Thul dug out six shots and made nine of nine serves with two aces.
