Emmetsburg News

Funeral service for Edna M. Kuhn of Emmetsburg will be held today, Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew. The Rev. David Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in South St. John's Cemetery, Cylinder. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Marie Kuhn, daughter of Thor and Olava (Norland) Hagen, was born Feb. 15, 1913 on a farm near Cylinder. Edna attended country school; she then went to high school in Emmetsburg, until graduation. She then taught in two rural schools.

Edna married Russell Kuhn in February of 1935. They had two children, Ruth Marie and Ronald Gene. They rented a farm in the Cylinder area until purchasing Russ's family farm near Rodman in the mid 40's. They lived there until the late 70's when they moved to Emmetsburg.

Edna stayed busy with her church activities and volunteering at the nursing home. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She helped to organize the Dorcas Society, and she was involved in several church activities.

Russ and Edna enjoyed traveling both in the U.S. and trips abroad. For over 20 years they spent their winters in the Valley area of Texas.

When health became an issue for Russ they both decided the time had come for them to move to Willow Ridge until she made the decision to move to Lakeside Lutheran Nursing Home.

Edna passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at Lakeside Lutheran Home at the age of 99.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Kuhn; her parents; and six brothers and sisters: Rodella, Thelma, Myrna, Merle, Kenneth and infant sister.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Endorf and son-in-law, Verlyn Endorf; her son Ronald Kuhn and daughter-in-law, Linda Kuhn; her seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Betty Brennan, and many nieces, nephews.
