Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawk basketball team opened the 2012-13 season Thursday with a one-point victory over Bishop Garrigan in an Iowa Pride Challenge game. For Emmetsburg, it was the start of a new season with a new head coach, as former Lady E-Hawk standout Anne (Burdorf)?Fiene took the reins of the girls' basketball fortunes.
With limited numbers on the roster for the season, the Lady E-Hawks hosted the Golden Bears in the Pride Scrimmage, which identifies a community service project that participants play for. Players on Thursday brought toys for children in the area.
For Emmetsburg, the Lady E-Hawks are led by senor Whitney Kibbie, who missed last season with a knee injury. Juniors Hadley Egland and Tegan Olson also return, but Olson is sidelined with a knee injury at this time. A solid group of sophomore players return for the Lady E-Hawks this season, led by letterwinners Ashton Connelly, Alexa Naig and Michaela Rehm, along with Emily Bonnstetter.
