Let the holidays begin! A Friday evening Christmas Parade will light the way.

The first Emmetsburg Lighted Christmas Parade will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. The parade units will line up on North Broadway and travel south to 14th Street.

Glow-in-the-dark necklaces will be handed out to parade watchers to help light up the night.

"We have over 20 lighted floats," said Dan McCain, parade chairman. "It's about what we had hoped for our first year. This is a good start to a big annual event."

McCain said he presented the idea to the Emmetsburg Retail Association after watching a Christmas parade in Minneapolis.

"I thought on a smaller scale, this could be something Emmetsburg could have fun with," he said. "Then we found out a lot of towns around host holiday parades, too."

Emmetsburg Retail Association is sponsoring the Christmas Parade as a kick-off for Home For The Holidays and 25-Days of Christmas.

Following the parade, stop at Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce/Welcome Center for a cup of hot chocolate and a cookie or two. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there, so bring kids and cameras.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Biblical Brass &?Beyond, a local ensemble under the direction of Terry Sorensen. Enjoy holiday music from the group of musicians playing the tuba, French horn, trumpets, saxophone, piano and drums.

Horse-drawn wagon rides will be provided by members of Pony Express. Guests will be taken on a brief tour of downtown.

At each open house their will be a stack of gifts, one from each participating ERA business. These gifts are valued at $25 or more.
