Emmetsburg's Junior Varsity E-Hawk boys opened their season with a 49-28 victory over Pocahontas Area on Nov. 27.
The E-Hawks opened the game slowly as they worked to get an offense going in a 4-4 score at the end of the fist quarter, but in the second frame, the offense began to flow as Emmetsburg edged out to an 18-11 advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, the E-Hawks found their marks and slid out to a 39-19 advantage at the end of three quarters before taking the 49-28 victory over the Indians.
For Emmetsburg, Zach Anderson led the effort with 12 points, while Luke Jackson followed with eight points. Cooper Hofstad scored seven points, while Aaron Bird and Joe Jackson both dropped in six points each.
Greg Wesley scored five points in the effort, while Brandon Elbert and Jacob Kibbie both scored two points each.
As a team, Emmetsburg connected on 17 of 33 shorts from two-point range for 51 percent shooting, and added three of six from the arc for 50 percent accuracy. At the charity strip, the E-Hawks made five of nine shots for 55 percent shooting. Emmetsburg pulled down 17 rebounds and committed nine turnovers, while grabbing 10 steals in the contest.
Pocahontas Area shot 12 of 24 from the two and missed all seven three-pointers. The Indians hit four of 10 free throws, collected 14 rebounds, made 10 turners and came up with three steals.
