Ongoing Investigation Leads To Additional Charges

Additional charges have been filed against an individual in connection with the theft and subsequent arson to a vehicle owned by the City of Emmetsburg back on Nov. 18.

According to Emmetsburg Police Chief Eric Hanson, his department has been conducting an ongoing criminal investigation into the theft of a 1994 Ford F150 pickup, owned by the City of Emmetsburg, which took place on Nov. 18, 2012. Following the theft of the pickup, the vehicle was destroyed in an act of arson.

On Nov. 20, Emmetsburg Police arrested 36-year-old Douglas James Grissom of Phoenix, AZ, on charges of Possession of Stolen Property, a Class "D" Felony, in connection with the incident on Nov. 18. Grissom remains in custody in the Palo Alto County Jail on that charge.

"As a result of the ongoing criminal investigation, additional criminal charges have been filed against Douglas James Grissom," Chief Hanson noted. "The criminal investigation revealed that a burglary had occurred at the Bad Manners Bar on Nov. 18. Property valued at $1,335 is alleged to have been removed from the bar and transported to a private residence in Emmetsburg. The stolen property from Bad Manners Bar has been recovered by the Emmetsburg Police Department."

With the recovery of the stolen property, Douglas James Grissom has been charged with Burglary in the Third Degree, a Class "D" Felony, and Arson in the First Degree, a Class "B" felony. Douglas James Grissom is currently being held in the Palo Alto County Jail on the additional charges.

Chief Hanson noted that all parties are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
