LAKE?PARK - A trip outside the Lakes Conference resulted in a 60-44 loss for the Emmetsburg E-Hawks at Lake Park on Monday night. Emmetsburg was without senior Jake Jackson due to an injury in the contest.
The E-Hawks played hard in the opening quarter against Harris-Lake Park out of the Cornbelt Conference, but trailed 16-13 at the end of the first quarter of play. Emmetsburg refused to concede anything and stayed with the Wolves in the second quarter, trailing by a pair, 27-29, going into the half-time break.
But in the second half, Harris-Lake Park put on a major defensive effort that all but silenced the E-Hawk offense, holding Emmetsburg to a lone bucket, while HLP slid out to a 47-29 advantage when the third frame ended.
Emmetsburg was able to regain their shooting touch in the final quarter, outscoring Harris-Lake Park 15-13, but the deficit was too great as the Wolves claimed the 60-44 win over the E-Hawks.
Erik Drost would rip the nets for 16 points on the night for Emmetsburg, while Michael Pugh added 12 markers to the effort. Mike Myers scored five points, while Greg Wesley came of the bench to tally three points, along with Brandon Elbert. Austin Krause scored two points in the effort and Jacob Kibbie added two points, while Joe Jackson sank a free throw to round out the Emmetsburg scoring.
