Theo E. Stephas 1918-2012

RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Theo E. Stephas will be held Friday, Dec. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Roger Maize will officiate.

Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven.

Theo E. (Hildebrand) Stephas, daughter of Charles and Iola (Phillips) Hildebrand, was born April 19, 1918, in Rembrandt. She received her education in Rembrandt, graduating in 1936.

On Aug. 8, 1936, Theo was united in marriage to Edwin Stephas in South Sioux City, NE. Theo and Edwin farmed for many years near Ruthven.

Theo was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. She was also a member of Farm Bureau, and Loganette Club. Theo worked at the Clay County Fair booths for many years.

Theo passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 94.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Dick and Argyle Stephas; and a brother, Jack Hildebrand.

She is survived by her children, Leo (Judy) Stephas of Ruthven, Roger (Marcia) Stephas of Spencer, Keith (Linda) Stephas of Eau Claire, MI; daughter-in-law, Karen (Stephas) Olson of Yakima, WA; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Grobe of Portland, OR.
