E-Hawk Freshmen Boys Playing Hard On Season

Coach Tom Nostrom's Emmetsburg E-Hawk Freshmen boys team has been hitting the hardwood in the past weeks and working hard in every game.

In December 13, the E-Hawk freshmen basketball team hosted Spirit Lake in two games. In the first game of the double-dig, the E-Hawks played very well but ended up falling to Spirit Lake as the Indians hit eight three-point field goals in the opening quarter.

After a tough first quarter the E-Hawks battled hard getting within single digits most of the game before falling 57-40.

For the E-Hawks Nick Grandstaff led the effort with 14 points, while Nate Schiek added 11, Wes Schultes came away with nine points and dished out three assists. Will Jackson, Kyle Kassel and Alex Deford all scored two points each in the contest.

The second half of the doubleheader saw the young E-Hawks fall by a 20-11 final tally.

Garritt Berkland and Spencer Bird both scored a three-point bucket in the contest, while Alex DeFord and Cameron Heddinger both score two points each. Christian Strohman capped the scoring with a free throw.

Defensively, Zach Nelson pulled down three boards and Christian Strohman made four steals.

Playing their second game of the week on Dec. 15, Emmetsburg hosted the Titans of South Central Calhoun, but fell by a final score of 55-31.

For Emmetsburg, Wes Schultes led the offensive effort with 13 points, while Nick Grandstaff followed with eight points and blocked three shots. Nate Schiek added seven points to the coffers and grabbed four carroms.

Kyle Kassel, Clayton Freeman and Alex DeFord all chipped in two points each.

A new week dawned on Monday, Dec. 17, as the Freshmen traveled up Highway Four to Estherville to meet the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central. A back and forth contes would end with the E-Hawks falling by a 55-43 final score.

Nate Schiek would lead the Emmetsburg effort with 17 points and came down with nine rebounds, while making four steals in the effort.

Wes Schultes dropped in a dozen points and grabbed eight boards, while Nick Grandstaff scored eight points and collected seven rebounds.

Adding to the E-Hawks' highest-scoring offensive effort of the season so far was Alex DeFord with four points and Cole Jackson with two points

A second contest lasting just two quarters saw Emmetsburg fall by an 18-10 tally to the Midget freshmen.

Emmetsburg was led by Cameron Heddinger with five points, while Zach Nielsen and Spencer Bird each scored two points and Alex Deford made a free throw.

Zach Nielsen, Kyle Louwagie and Eli Reichert all dished out an assist and Eli Reichert also pulled down five rebounds.

The E-Hawks' season takes a break for Christmas but will resume with a stretch of four road games starting Jan. 3 at Spencer.
