ALGONA -- A funeral service for Rolland D. "Rollie" Baxter was held Monday, Jan. 7, at Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Lone Rock. The Rev. David Bergquist officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Rolland Daniel Baxter was born July 11, 1924, on the family farm near Ayrshire, son of Robert and Edna (Rouse) Baxter. He graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1942 and then worked on the family farm until his marriage.
Rolland was married to Christina Kading on March 16, 1953, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Algona. They farmed and lived in the Lotts Creek area.
Rollie deeply loved farming and being with his family, especially his grand- children. He enjoyed going to reunions and dancing and in later years he enjoyed going to movies and to the casino with his friend Betty. He was a member of Lotts Creek Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Lone Rock.
Rolland D. Baxter died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his farm near Lone Rock at the age of 88.
He is survived by four children, Barbara (Mark) Lester of Clarion, Donna (Maurice) Thilges of Spirit Lake, David Baxter of Fenton, and Connie (Paul) Youngwirth of Marion; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Betty Guy of LuVerne; a sister, Eythel Rowcliffe of Osage; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christina on Feb. 11, 1998; a daughter, Jane Marie in infancy; three sisters, Helen Christoffer, Marie Carpenter, and Mildred Cutler; and four brothers, Leslie, Harry, Ernest, and Ellsworth Baxter.
