E-Hawks Rally From Deficit But Fall Short

January 10, 2013
by Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

The start of the second half of the basketball season didn't quite work out as Emmetsburg's E-Hawks had hoped, as they lost a hard-fought, 44-32 contest to Spirit Lake on Tuesday night.

The contest started in back and forth fashion, with the two squads feeling each other out as the Indians took an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. But, some fouls in the second quarter put a crimp on the E-Hawks' style and Spirit Lake pulled away for a 24-15 advantage at the intermission.

In the third quarter, Emmetsburg came out and battled hard, cutting the lead to a deuce before trailing 29-26 to end the third before Spirit Lake took over for the 44-32 win.

Jake Jackson would lead Emmetsburg with 12 points, while Austin Krause added eight points. Erik Drost tallied five points, with Mike Myers chipping in four points and Michael Pugh adding three points.

The E-Hawks will return to action this Friday night when they host Cherokee in Lakes boys hoops action.
