CONGRATULATIONS, FARMERS MUTUAL -- Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting at the new office building of Farmers Mutual Insurance last Friday, Jan. 11. Pictured for the ribbon cutting (from the left) are Chamber Executive Director Deb Hite, Farmers Mutual Board members Dave Garrelts, secretary/manager Rich Stillman, Ron Hersom, Thad Louwagie, board president Norlyn Stowell cutting the ribbon and Jim Miller, Farmers Mutual office manager Suzette Biddle, office assistant Jess Haffner and adjuster/inspector Mike Hough, with Emmetsburg Community Developer Steve Heldt and Chamber President Dan McCain. Board members Nancy Nesheim and Monte Thompson were unable to attend. The ribbon cutting was held in conjunction with the weekly Chamber Coffee. In August 2011 the buildings at 915 and 917 Broadway were razed to make room for progress. Numerous entities in the community took part in the process to develop the downtown lots. Farmers Mutual took the opportunity to construct new offices in that space. With a 126-year history, Farmers Mutual Insurance is one of the oldest businesses in Palo Alto County. --Jane Whitmore photo
