According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa, like the rest of the U.S., is now experiencing high levels of influenza activity. Compared to typical influenza seasons in the past, this year started one-to-two months earlier.
The number of hospitalizations and the percent of patients going to clinics for flu-like symptoms is already three times higher than these typical years, and the peak of activity is not expected for several more weeks.
For the safety of patients and visitors, Palo Alto County Hospital has initiated some visitor restrictions according to its influenza plan.
Please do not visit patients in the hospital if you have any respiratory symptoms or other illnesses. Also, children age 18 and younger should not visit patients.
The Birth Center is restricting visitation to the spouse or significant other and grandparents.
If a child is in the hospital, visitation is restricted to the parents and grandparents.
