Leona E. Conway 1920-2013

A Mass of Christian Burial for Leona E. Conway was held Saturday, Jan. 19, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Richard Ries was the celebrant.

Interment was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Leona Eleanor Conway, daughter of John and Nora (Kanke) Kimmick, was born May 7, 1920 in Marengo. John was killed in an accident when Leona was just a young child. She and her mother moved to West Bend, where her mother did domestic work for Chris Dorweiler. Leona attended graduated from West Bend High School in 1940. Chris adopted Leona later in her life.

On Nov. 24, 1943 Leona was united in marriage to Lawrence Conway at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire. To this union a son, William H. Conway, was born.

Leona and Larry farmed near Ayrshire for 18 years before moving to Emmetsburg. Leona then became a Certified Nurses Assistant working in local care facilities until 1968 when she became employed at Lakeside Lutheran Home. Leona worked there until her retirement at the age of 72.

Leona was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Leona passed away Wed-nesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 92.

She was preceded in death by her birth father and mother, John and Nora Kimmick; her adoptive father, Chris Dorweiler; her husband, Lawrence Conway in 1968; a brother, Carroll H. Kimmick; and two step grandsons, James and Jacob Whitehill.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Willi-am H. and Rose Conway of Emmetsburg; two grandchildren, Jacqie Conway of Emmetsburg and William E. Conway of Sioux Falls, SD; a step granddaughter, Corinna Morwitzer of Marshalltown; great grandchildren.
