CHILI WEEKEND -- Northwest Iowa temperatures were downright bone chilling last weekend as they dipped to single digits with windchill below zero. It has indeed been "chilly." Two weekend events took the chill off: the Chili and Music Evening at the Lost Island Nature Center on Saturday night and the Get Wild! Eat Wild! Chili Cookoff! at Wild Rose Casino &?Resort on Sunday afternoon. Area residents enjoyed a bowl of chili and the music of Ceolmhor at the Nature Center. Eleven competitors entered the Chili Cookoff at the Wild Rose on Sunday. Judges named first through fifth place winners and the public judged the People's Choice Award. Additional photos from both events are inside this issue of The Democrat. --Jane Whitmore photos

Their chili recipe included chicken, white beans and mandarin oranges. The Bakers have The Titanium Lunchbox, featuring pizza, pasta and more, in Britt.
