James W. Domek 1924-2013

A Mass of Christian Burial for James W. Domek was held Monday, March 11, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Clem Currans was the celebrant.

Interment was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

James Warren Domek, son of Fred G. and Clara (Gappa) Domek, was born June 2, 1924 near Cylinder. He began his education in country school near Cylinder and then attended Whittemore Academy.

On Sept. 22, 1949 Jim was united in marriage to LaVonne Westfall at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union three children were born.

Jim farmed near Emmetsburg for many years before retiring and moving into town. He continued his interest in growing crops by raising a large garden each summer. He loved selling his produce at the Farmer's Markets.

Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.

Jim passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leo, Raymond and Edmund Domek; three sisters, Alice Huskamp, Marie Mugan and Ruth Dickey; and twin grandchildren, James and Jennifer Domek.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne of Emmetsburg; his children, James R. Domek (Pamela) of Estherville, Patricia Christensen of Havelock, David W. Domek (Shelle) of Wallingford; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Bruhn; nieces and nephews.
