Norman I. Williamson

RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Norman I. Williamson was held Saturday, March 30, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Tom Summerfield officiated.

Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.

Norman Ire Williamson, son of Henry and Bertha (Wichman) Williamson, was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Spencer. He received his education at Ayrshire Consolidated School. Norman served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1953 to 1955. After being honorably discharged from the service he returned home to continue farming.

On Aug. 23, 1959, Norman was united in marriage to Marvel Lee Scharnberg at the Hope Lutheran Church in Everly.

Norman farmed in Clay and Palo Alto counties his entire life. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and had served on the Ruthven-Ayrshire Board of Education.

Norman passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 77.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marvel Lee "Scharny"; two brothers, LuVerne and Eugene Williamson; and a brother-in-law, Bob Spurling.

He is survived by his children, Roger (Lori) William-son of Ruthven, John (Vicki) Williamson of Spencer, and Sharon (Ryan Johannsen) Henricksen of Spencer; eight grandchildren; thres great grandchildren; a brother, Bob (Lou) Williamson of Spencer; sisters, Joann (Kenny) Garrelts of Spencer, Lorraine Spurling of Murry, UT; sisters-in-law, Mildred "Peanuts" Williamson of Ruthven, and Betty Williamson of Spencer; several nieces and nephews.
