Emmetsburg's E-Hawk Track squad will have a presence at the 2013 Drake Relays this week in Des Moines.
Senior Cody Henderson earned a qualification to compete in the high school 110 high hurdle competition of the Drake Relays, which begin today and continue through Saturday.
Qualifications for the Drake Relays were announced over the past weekend, with total of 32 prep hurdlers earning the right to compete on the blue track at Drake Stadium.
Henderson qualified for the event with a time of :15.26, earning him lane one starting position in the first heat of the boys 110 high hurdles. The four preliminary heats will run at 8:16 a.m. Friday, with the finals scheduled for 11:43 a.m. Friday on the Jim Duncan Track.
With the E-Hawks only having two outdoor competitions under their belts prior to Drake, being able to qualify for the Relays is a major accomplishment.
"We're very proud of Cody for qualifying for Drake,"?noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Tyler Beving. "He's worked hard and this is a nice honor for him to earn as a senior."
Activities began Wednesday with the Heptathlon and Decathlon, and move into distance races Thursday. Sprints and relays will finish out Friday and Saturday at Drake.
"It's been a couple of years since we've had anyone at Drake and we're glad to be back," Beving said.
