Emmetsburg Ambulance Involved In Accident

ESTHERVILLE An ambulance of the Palo Alto County Hospital was involved in an accident tlast Monday north of Estherville that sent three people to the hospital.

According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the accident took place at 5:33 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the 100 block of Iowa Highway Four north of Estherville. After investigation at the scene, deputies determined the 1998 Ford Lifeline Ambulance, owned by the Palo Alto County Hospital and being driven by 27-year old Cody Petersen of Graettinger, was northbound on Highway Four, five miles north of Estherville when the driver lost control and the ambulance entered the south ditch of the roadway and rolled onto the driver's side.

Driver Cody Petersen and the attending paramedic 29-year old Joseph Lybarger of Estherville received minor injuries in the mishap. The patient being transported in the rear of the ambulance, 67-year old Lois Wegener of Emmetsburg, was not injured. All three individuals were transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital by the Estherville Ambulance Service. Autorities estimated the damage to the 1998 Ford ambulance at $10,000.
